Flashlight cards have quickly become one of our favorite resources.
They are so easy to prep and even more fun to use!
Now, so far, we’ve used them to learn about several different types of animal habitats, from the rainforest to the ocean, but now, we’ve got a brand new set designed to teach us about the animals of the night!
While reading about these animals is a fantastic way to learn about them, these nocturnal animal flashlight cards give you the opportunity to make it a little bit more hands-on, which makes it a whole lot more fun!
They’ll not only give you the opportunity to introduce your preschooler to some of the animals that roam in the night, but it will also give you the chance to talk about other science concepts like light and shadows as well.
What’s Included in the Nocturnal Animal Flashlight Card Set
In this set of printable nocturnal animal flashlight cards, you’ll find 12 different animals:
- bat
- hedgehog
- firefly
- opossum
- spider
- skunk
- raccoon
- owl
- fox
- luna moth
- cricket
- mole
Using the Nocturnal Animal Flashlight Cards
Like our habitat flashlight cards, these nocturnal animal cards are super easy to prep.
Just print them off, cut them out, and run them through your laminator.
Printing Tip: These cards must be printed on both the front and the back to work. Choose to print on both sides of the paper and flip on the long edge.
Then, all you have to do is grab your flashlight to find these hidden animals.
Finding the Nocturnal Animals
To find each of the nocturnal animals, your child will need to do some searching.
If they simply look at the front of the card, they’ll find a dark, night time scene.
But, if they shine their flashlight at the back of the card while looking at the front, they’re in for a nocturnal surprise!
You can also stand next to a bright window and hold the cards up to the light if you prefer to go that route.
As they work their way through the cards, they’ll be able to use the light and the shadows to see some of the different types of animals that come out after dark.
