Whether you’re prepping for Halloween or Thanksgiving or even just enjoying the fall season, pumpkins are a mainstay.
From carving a face into the front of one to turning them into delicious fall-themed deserts, pumpkins play such a huge role in most fall activities that it just makes sense to add them to our learning as well!
And with this pumpkin seed counting printable, you can do just that!
Counting Pumpkin Seeds
Now, we have counted seeds before.
In fact, in a similar fall-themed activity, we counted apple seeds.
This time though, we’re busting out the pumpkins and of course, the pumpkin seeds!
Prepping the Pumpkin Seed Counting Activity
The prep for this pumpkin themed activity is quick and easy, but once you’re all done, it’ll provide hours of counting fun!
Just print the pieces off, cut out the pumpkin and the dice, run the pumpkin through your laminator, and assemble the dice using either glue or tape.
The dice for this activity are a bit different than those that we’ve made in the past for printable activities like this.
Previously, we used a single dice with numbers one through six.
For this set, however, we have included two dice with numbers ranging from zero to ten.
There is also a section prompting your little learning to roll again.
Using the Pumpkin Seed Counting Activity
The concept for this pumpkin seed counting activity is simple.
Your child will roll the dice, we typically just use one at a time when starting out, and use their number recognition, counting, and fine motor skills to identify and count out the correct number of pumpkin seeds before placing them on the pumpkin.
When they’ve counted them all correctly, wipe them off and roll again.
Modifications for this Activity
For younger children or those that need a little extra practice, start with a single die so that they can easily practice their counting skills without getting overwhelmed.
For older, or more advanced children, have them roll both dice at once and add the numbers together to get the number of pumpkin seeds that they need.
