If there is one thing that preschoolers seem to love, it is drawing pictures of themselves. Well, my preschooler at least :)
He loves drawing pictures of his family and our house and as we start easing our way back in to the school year, I wanted to find a way to incorporate that into our beginning of the year, all about me theme.
Taking that one step further, we decided that we could review the different parts of the body while we were at it!
This was such a simple activity and has actually already been repeated a second time since the preschooler loved it so much.
The best part is that you probably already have everything you need! Just wrapping paper and crayons!
Yep! That’s right :) I said wrapping paper!
To make our life size drawing, I spread out a roll of wrapping paper so that it was upside down. This gives you a nice long sheet of paper to draw on and you don’t have to worry about getting a special roll of paper or trying to piece together smaller ones.
Just roll it out on the floor, have your preschooler lay down on top of it and trace around them. Simple as that!
Once you’ve got your outline, grab some crayons and let them go to town. Draw a face, pick out colors for the clothes, get creative!
After we were done coloring and little man was done adding all of the designs that he wanted, I printed off some basic body part labels, cut them out, and gave him a glue stick. We read the labels together and he would glue them next to the correct body part.
This was such a simple, mess free activity and was a great review! It was also a lot of fun for me as I got to see how he colored in his portrait and all of the different designs he wanted to add to himself :)
Obviously, the labels that we made and used for this activity are pretty basic but they were super quick and easy to cut out and use and you’ll find a free printable version of them below in case you’d like to try this with your own preschooler. Enjoy!
