If ever there were a holiday for which it would be perfectly acceptable to use candy as a teaching aid, Valentine’s Day would be it.
I don’t know about where you live but here it seems like Valentine’s Day was filling store shelves less than a week after Santa made his run.
In other words, I’ve had to restrain myself from buying all of those adorable little Valentine treats for almost 2 months. This past weekend…I caved. But with good reason!
Recently, Nicholas has started counting on his own. He counts pretty much anything and everything. His cars, his crayons, the number of times he can jump on the couch while mommy is changing Skylar (have I mentioned we are going through the terrible twos).
And since we’re all about Valentine’s Day in Tot School this week, I figured we’d add a little something sweet to our math time.
Enter conversation heart math!
On top of counting those little candy hearts we sorted them by color, made shapes with them and started working on patterns.
Nicholas had a blast and did really well up until he realized that they were, in fact, candy. I bet I don’t even need to explain how quickly the math lesson ended now do I?
