With our previous alphabet book craft taking us to the depths of the ocean, it only seemed fitting that this one take us high into the sky. Or, as the little man says, way above the treetops.
Of course when you try to think of things that can fly that also start with the letter O, you’re more than likely going to come up with an owl.
And an adorable one at that!
This was one of the few crafts for our alphabet book that we didn’t really have much of a plan for going in.
We knew what we wanted to make with our lowercase letter O and looked at a few pictures of owls to get a basic idea. From there, we decided to wing it :)
To make a letter O owl like ours, you’ll need:
- A sheet of white card stock
- Construction paper (we wound up going with dark brown, light brown, yellow, orange, and black)
- Scissors
- Glue
Of course, if you decide to alter your owl at all, change up your materials accordingly.
First things first, cut out your pieces.
We cut our lowercase letter O from our light brown construction paper and the head, the large triangle, from the dark brown. The orange turned into our owl’s feet and beak.
From the yellow and black, we cut two different sizes of circles for the eyes.
Finally, although not included in the picture, we cut a few leaf like shapes from our dark brown paper to use as wings. Again, we were kind of making this one up as we went along.
To assemble your feathered friend, start by gluing your lowercase letter O into the center of your card stock.
Add some feet right onto the bottom of your letter.
Next, you’ll want to construct your owl’s head.
We started by gluing the dark brown triangle right onto the top of our letter O and added the smaller orange triangle right on to the bottom of that for the beak.
Then, grab the different colors of circles that you cut out and add those to the sides of your triangles to make some eyes.
Finally, if you decided to use them, add the wings to each side of your letter O and glue it all down.
