If there is one thing I love about winter and the holiday season, it’s snow!
Honestly, I love when it snows and unfortunately, we don’t see too much of the white stuff down here in the southern states.
I guess that just means we’ll just have to keep using our imaginations, and of course, making a lot of fun winter crafts :)
Since it was almost 75° here this week and it just doesn’t quite feel like Christmas while it is that warm, we needed something to get us into the holiday spirit and these adorable little snowmen fit the bill perfectly!
This is such a simple craft to make with your preschooler and as a bonus, it is a great way to work on fine motor skills at the same time!
All you’re going to need is:
- An empty egg carton
- Cotton balls
- Orange craft foam
- Small black pom poms
- Black buttons
- Scissors
- Glue
To get started, cut the top off of your egg carton and hold onto the bottom half.
Because this step can be kind of tricky, an adult should cut the egg carton into sections.
Have your child decide how long they would like their snowman to be and cut the number of sections that you need right off of the egg carton. You’ll want to make sure that, when cutting, you make your cut at the end of a section and not through the middle of one. Having a section cut in half will make it a lot more difficult for you to get your cotton balls to stay in place.
Now, for the fun part! Start building your snowman!
Have your child take a few cotton balls and stretch them out a bit so that they’re a little fluffier and have more of a swirly snow shape to them rather than just looking like cotton balls.
Add a little bit of glue into each egg carton section and stuff your cotton balls down into them. Once the glue has dried a bit, you can try fluffing them up a little.
Finally, finish off your snowman!
Just like building one outside in the snow, you’ll need some pom poms for the buttons, a couple of button eyes, and cut a carrot shape from your craft foam for the nose.
Once you’re done, you’ll have an adorable frozen frosty whether it’s snowing outside or not!
