Our Think Outside the Toy Box summer series continues this week with…paper bags!
Not only did we use those paper bags, but we made this super simple craft using things we already had around the house!
You can make this paper bag wind sock using simple items you already have or, find other fun things to add to it. Use whatever you like!
To make ours, we used:
Colored paper bags that we had leftover from another project
Brightly colored fabric scraps
Crayons
Yarn/Twine
Tacky Glue
We started off by coloring our paper bag. You could use stickers, paints, whatever you want to decorate your bag but we decided to just keep this one simple.
For the tails (that’s what they’re called right) we used brightly colored fabric scraps that we had lying around.  Nicholas chose a bright combination of a yellow paper sack and bright blue fabric. Definitely gets you into the summer spirit. If you’d prefer, you could use different colored paper, maybe some streamers, whatever you can think of!
If you decide to use fabric, cut it into strips and use your tacky glue to glue it right side out to the inside of your bag.
Finally, cut 4 pieces of either yarn or twine the same length and either glue or tape them to the 4 corners of the closed end of the paper bag.
Gather the ends of your string (the parts that are not glued to your bag) and tie them together in a knot.
Now all that’s left to do is hang up your wind sock and watch it sway in the breeze.
(Look! Sunshine! It seems to be a rare treat these days but the rain subsided long enough for us to enjoy our new wind sock.)
