When it comes to the circus, the show just wouldn’t be complete without the lions!
And if you’re looking to get a little crafty with your preschooler as part of a C is for Circus theme, then this is the perfect craft for you!
Using simple shredded construction paper, you can make yourselves and little lion that is perfect for the circus, super simple to make (even the younger ones could get involved!), and did I mention that it is adorable?!
This is seriously the simplest thing you will make all year! And the kids have a ton of fun putting them together!
First things first, you’re going to need to gather your supplies!
To make this, you’ll need:
- Yellow and Orange construction paper
- Googly Eyes
- Scissors
- Glue
- Marker
- Paper Shredder (this is optional, it makes things a lot easier and faster but you could do the same thing with your scissors if you want)
Now, before you do anything else, your lion is going to need a head, so cut a big circle out of your yellow construction paper and set it aside.
Now, if you’re just using scissors to cut your shredded paper, go ahead and cut your orange construction paper into thin strips. If you’re using a paper shredder, run your orange construction paper through until you have a pretty good size pile of orange paper strips.
Give that pile of paper strips to your child and have them scrunch and squeeze them all! You’re basically just giving your lion’s mane a little bit of a wilder look :)
Finally, glue your lion’s mane on by putting glue all along the outside of your yellow circle and sticking all of your shredded paper to it, and add your finishing touches. He’ll need eyes, a nose, and a mouth.
Your lion’s mane probably will look a little bit wild and, in some places, won’t want to stick to the glue. That’s okay! It just adds a little character and the shredded paper adds a fun sensory experience to an already super fun (and simple!) craft!
