Learning CVC words is exciting for a lot of kids as at that point they’ve gotten the hand of all of the letter sounds and they’re starting to put them all together to start reading for the first time.
Even with knowing how to start sounding out these simple words, they’ll still need some practice of course, and that’s where these secret CVC words cards come in!
They’re a tone of fun for beginning readers and all you need are the printable cards and a dry erase marker!
Decoding Secret CVC Words
Can you crack the secret code?
Figuring out these CVC words is a lot of fun, but requires your knowledge of beginning sounds. If you’ve got that, then you’re all set!
Included in this set, you’ll find 16 different secret CVC word cards.
Each card includes three pictures and space for your child to write in the correct CVC word once they’ve figured it out.
The CVC words included in this set are:
- cat
- pig
- map
- cub
- bus
- gem
- jar
- pet
- dig
- hut
- box
- sad
- vet
- web
- zip
- mop
Just print the cards, cut them out, and run them through your laminator for durability.
When they’re ready to use, give your child a dry erase marker and explain to them that they will need to figure out the beginning sound for each picture and that each of those beginning sounds will make up one letter in their secret CVC word.
Not feeling the dry erase marker?
You could also use letter tiles or even alphabet magnets to create your CVC words along the bottom of each card!
A fine motor element can be added to this activity by simply creating the letters for each CVC word out of play dough or by writing them on clothespins and having your child clip the correct letters onto the bottom of the card.
The possibilities are endless!
