Chances are, if you’ve got kids, you’ve got more than your fair share of mismatched puzzle pieces lying around.
For this week’s Think Outside the Toy Box, we’re taking those puzzle pieces and using them up!
We’re making some puzzle pictures!
The beauty of these is that you can really let your child’s imagination soar. Whether they want to make a flower, paint the pieces like various bugs, or build a puzzle piece rainbow.
Not to mention, they’re super simple to make and you probably already have everything you need right there at home!
To make some puzzle pictures of your own, you’ll need:
Mismatched puzzle pieces (all different shapes and sizes)
Acrylic paint
Paint Brush
Piece of cardboard or something sturdy that you can glue your pieces to
Glue (forgot to include that in the picture :) but we used Tacky glue and it worked really well!)
Grab all of your puzzle pieces and start moving them around to create different pictures. The possibilities are endless so encourage your child to use their imagination!
For ours, we decided to make a flower and used a few different sizes of puzzle pieces to accomplish it.
Once you’ve decided on what your picture is going to look like, grab your paints and your paint brush and start painting.
With most puzzle pieces, the backs are paper and very easy to paint. They soak the acrylic paint in easily and dry very quickly (which makes this even better!).
Once your pieces are dry, go ahead and recreate your picture and glue them to the cardboard.
That’s it! Not only do you have some beautiful artwork made by your little one, but you’ve used up quite a few of those mismatched puzzle pieces that you probably would’ve just thrown away otherwise :)
