Fine motor skills are one of our favorite skills to work on with preschoolers and this pumpkin pie fine motor activity is one of the easiest ways to practice those skills in the month of November.
Your preschoolers will not only have the opportunity to work on strengthening their small motor muscles, but they’ll also get the chance to work on their counting while celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday!
Thanksgiving Fine Motor Counting
Thanksgiving is a holiday centered around food and more often than not, a lot of that food is specific to the holiday celebration.
I mean, it’s not every day that someone pulls out a roasted turkey and a full buffet of sides for dinner!
But that actually works out perfectly for us as we can use some of these special holiday treats to work on our counting and fine motor skills throughout the month of November!
Now, personally, one of our favorite Thanksgiving dishes is the pumpkin pie.
So, it only made sense for us to include it in our Thanksgiving themed learning with this pumpkin pie fine motor counting activity and I honestly think it was just as big of a hit as the real pie normally is!
The prep work, however, is a whole lot easier than making an actual pumpkin pie.
Just print the pumpkin pie pieces off, cut them out, and run them through your laminator. That’s it! Easy as pie!
Using the Pumpkin Pie Fine Motor Counting Activity
Just like the prep work, using this activity with your preschoolers or kindergarteners is about as easy as it gets!
Simply pair the laminated pieces of pumpkin pie with some cotton balls and a large pair of plastic tweezers.
Don’t have a pair of plastic tweezers? That’s okay! You can easily use a some larger clothespins instead and your students are still in for an excellent fine motor workout!
Have your students identify the number on each piece of pie and count out their cotton ball “dollops of whipped cream” to add to each one.

Ideas for Differentiating
This printable set includes numbers 0 through 10, making it perfect for preschoolers, but if you have a few little learners that are working ahead or you have a couple of kindergarteners in your group, try having them add the numbers on the pie pieces together after they count out their cotton balls.
You could also have them identify and work through the even numbers first and then move on to the odd numbers.
However you decide to use it, this pumpkin pie fine motor counting activity is sure to be a hit with all of your students!
