Recently, we’ve been talking a lot about numbers. Specifically numbers 1-10.
Not because the soon-to-be kindergartner suddenly needs a refresher, but because Miss 3 has now become very interested in everything her big brother is doing.
So much so that when he starts counting something, she starts counting right alongside him (which usually winds up messing up his sequence).
So we decided it was time to start giving her some fun activities of her own.
Right now, she is all about hearts and the color pink. If she has a choice, that’s what she’s going with and with Valentine’s Day coming up, I knew I could come up with something for her pretty quickly.
These printable Valentine number mats are super simple but a lot of fun and they were a huge hit in our house!
And when I say super simple, I mean it!
Just print them off and you’re ready to go if you want to use them as is. Of course, if you’d like to reuse them again and again for extra practice, either laminate each of the mats or, do as we did, as stick each one into a plastic page protector.
Once they’re laminated, just grab a couple of dry erase markers and you’re all set.
Each of the 10 mats contains four different sections.
The first includes both the numeral and the number word. In this section we tried a few different things before ultimately ending up making the shape of the numeral with our clear glass gems.
This worked to not only help her learn how to form the numeral itself, but it was also a fun and easy way to work on fine motor skills as well!
The bottom left section is for the counting fingers. Miss 3’s favorite part :) She loved counting each of the fingers and then making her own hand look the same.
The upper right hand section includes the number for that particular mat along with arrows to show the sequence in which the marks are added to make the number and finally, the last section leaves a space for counting and drawing your own hearts to match the number on each mat.
