Once you start working on beginning sounds with your child, it’s easy for them to become overwhelmed. Learning to read isn’t always an easy thing to do :)
What we’ve found that works best for us is to find ways to make new concepts fun. At this point, my oldest responds very well to learning new skills and concepts when I can find a way to make them more hands-on and less like a worksheet.
Since we’re working a little on beginning sounds right and Thanksgiving is right around the corner, I combined the two together to create a fun set of printable Thanksgiving beginning sound clip cards that will not only work on mastering a few of those letter sounds but will give him a little more fine motor practice as well.
Just like our bumblebee counting cards were earlier this year, these have been a huge hit! So much so that we’ve already used them a few times and tried something new to shake things up a bit.
To start, we usually use regular wooden clothespins to just clip the letter that makes the sound belonging to the corresponding picture. After we practiced that a few times, we added a little more fine motor work to the activity and used the hole punch to mark the correct letter.
Both options were a lot of fun but the 4 year old is definitely now a fan of using the hole punch :)
