This has definitely been a strange year as far as the weather is concerned. While we’ve gotten used to southern winters being warmer than most, this year has been so much more so.
With it being nearly 75° on Christmas Day, it took a bit of imagination to make it really feel like the holiday season around here.
Of course, now that Christmas is over, we’re swapping many of our activities over from those that are holiday focused to some that have more of a winter theme even though it doesn’t technically feel like the coldest season of the year.
Now, we know that penguins are around no matter what season it is, but they do tend to remind us of snow and ice and all things cold so coming up with a few penguin inspired activities seemed like the perfect way to make it feel a little more like winter and this penguin alphabet matching set was an awesome start!
Penguin Alphabet Matching
I mean, who wouldn’t want to practice the letters of the alphabet as long as you got to include these adorable little guys right?!
They’re cute, they’re cuddly, and they’re a great way to practice letter recognition while learning to pair the upper and lowercase versions of each letter.
These cards can be used to make a memory matching game, as an alphabet matching busy bag, or even as a file folder game if you’ve got some extra manilla folders lying around.
Just print out the pages included in the download, all 26 letters are included, cut them into cards and let your little ones do the matching.
If your child is younger and still learning the letters of the alphabet, you may not want to start out using all 26 sets right at the beginning. Start with 5 or so letter sets and work on those until they’ve got them down and then add a few more in.
If you plan to use these cards with more than one child at a time or you plan to use them and then save them for use again with younger children, I would suggest laminating them as that will give your cards a little bit of added durability, which is always a plus when working with little ones.
