Classifying and sorting different objects is a fantastic way to work on basic math concepts with your child.
By identifying those characteristics of a set of objects that are either similar or different, they are honing those early math skills that will serve them later in life as they grow and learn the more complex mathematical concepts.
Of course, it helps your child understand the material if your activity is fun for them as well.
So, to tie it in with our C is for Circus theme, we decided to sort circus performers.
What could be more fun than that!
Using this printable is easy! And bonus! If your child is old enough to work with scissors, they’ll get some practice with those as well.
Simply print both pages of the printable and have your child cut along the lines to cut out the different circus performers. They don’t have to be perfect, just cut out :)
Once all 6 circus performers are cut out, explain to your preschooler what they are looking for. Which ones are the animals and which ones are the people?
The second page of the printable gives 2 columns so that once your child classifies the performers in the correct area, they can glue them where they belong.
We had so much fun with this activity and I’m so glad that we were able to throw in a little more scissor practice in there as well.
I hope you enjoy the printables as much as we have!
