Throughout all of my years of schooling, history was always my favorite subject.
Whether we were learning about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table or either or the World Wars, I loved reading and learning about various different time periods throughout history.
Honestly, I love it all, but if I had to choose just one part of history to learn about over and over again, it would definitely be the various U.S. presidents.
Now, obviously, being in the U.S., American history has made up a large part of my education, but beyond that, I just love learning about the various different people who have led the country.
So, naturally, it made sense to incorporate that into a fun file folder game since we love using those almost as much as I love history and while this president sequencing file folder game won’t actually teach you anything about each of the presidents, it will help your little learner see where they each fall in the timeline as they learn about each of them!
From George Washington to Donald Trump, all 45 U.S. presidents are included in this file folder game and there’s even a little bit of space left over so that you can add to it when the time comes.
Assembling the President Sequencing Game
To make this game, like all of our other file folder games, you’ll need to start by gathering up your supplies. You’ll need:
- A manila file folder
- Scissors
- Clear contact paper
- Laminator (optional)
- Velcro dots
- The president sequencing printable (below)
Start by cutting out all of your pieces and using some of your clear contact paper to attach the cover to the front of your game.
This can be a bit tricky as the static from the contact paper will have your cover slipping and sliding all over the place. To fix this, just add a few pieces of double-sided tape to the back of your cover to hold it in place on the front of your folder long enough to lay the contact paper over top. Press it down while smoothing out any air bubbles and you’re good to go!
Next, run each of the president pieces through your laminator so they’ll stand up to be pulled off the Velcro over and over again.
Finally, lay each of your president pieces out so that you can find the best fit and attach one side of the Velcro dots to the inside of your folder under each of the pieces and attach the opposite side of the Velcro the backs of each of your president pieces.
Using the President Sequencing Game
As you learn about the various different presidents with your children, work on putting each of them in the correct spot on the presidential timeline that you have just created within your file folder game.
Explain to your children that while in a file folder game it may not look like it is taking up much space at all, but when you look at it as being representative of history, you’re actually looking at a span of more than 200 years.
Once they’ve learned about the various presidents and their time in history, have them work on sequencing them into the correct order.
