We talked a bit about helping your child practice their number sense skills with our printable gumball number sense activity, but to truly master these early math skills, it’s something that has to be practiced numerous times.
Now, you could obviously use the same printable set to practice over and over again, but it wouldn’t take long for that to get really, really boring.
That, my friend, is where this printable ice cream number sense set comes in.
Ice Cream Cone Math
This printable set allows your child to work on their number sense skills for number 1-10 and is absolutely perfect for Summer!
Just print the pieces, cut them out, and laminate them for durability.

If your child is just starting out, walk through building an ice cream cone with them the first time to show them that each scoop of ice cream contains the same number, just in different forms.
Each ice cream cone contains the numeral on the ice cream cone itself and then six scoops of ice cream to go with it. The scoops of ice cream contain the number word, written out, tally marks, dice, ten frames, counting fingers, and base ten blocks.
Putting one together with them first allows them to see all of the various ways that you can make that single number before trying to do so themselves.
Once you feel like they’re understanding the concept, lay out the rest of the ice cream scoops, give them the ice cream cones, and have them see if they can build the rest of the numbered ice cream cones on their own.
This set also makes a fantastic busy bag or an awesome quiet time activity for early finishers. It would even make a great math center for kindergartners!
