Learning to read can be a tricky thing for some kids. Some may even call it boring, but it doesn’t have to be! Working on your CVC words can feel like a super sweet treat when you practice them with this ice cream themed file folder game!
Perfect for kindergartners, this file folder game is super easy to put together and is such a fun way to work on those literacy skills throughout the day.
Ice Cream CVC Words
You won’t find any traditional chocolate or vanilla here! These ice cream scoops are bright, colorful, and ready to be matched!
Now, you’re probably used to the drill by now, but to make this game yourself, you’ll need to gather up a few supplies.
You’ll need:
- A file folder
- Clear contact paper
- Velcro dots
- Scissors
- Laminator (optional)
- The printable ice cream set (below)
This game, like our many others, has a cover that you can attach to the front of your folder to make it easy to spot when storing them.
Just use some clear contact paper to hold it in place.
Inside the folder, you’ll use that contact paper again to attach the ice cream cones that have already been printed and cut.
Next, add Velcro dots to the folder just above each of the ice cream cones. This is what your ice cream scoops will stick to when you have them ready.
When that’s all done, cut out and laminate the ice cream scoops and attach an opposite Velcro dot to the back of each one.
When you’re ready to practice some CVC words, simply give your child the ice cream scoops and have them match the pictures that are on each one to the corresponding cone by reading the words on each one.
All of the words used in this game use short vowel sounds so it is absolutely perfect for those beginning readers!
