Just a few short weeks ago, I had the privilege of sharing a guest post from Sherry Ann of Teach, Inspire, Love, Raise on making your own DIY I-Spy Bottles for kids.
Well, in the days following that post, we decided to give it a try and it pretty much became an instant hit in our house! Nicholas loved finding all of the items in the bottle but was even more excited about the fact that he could “hide” them again :).
He would hide the items and then get all excited when he found them again but, spent a good portion of his time trying to figure out how to get into the bottle and find the stuff inside. So, we decided to expand that activity just a bit!
Not only was Nicholas happy that he could finally get his hands on everything in the bottle but taking those items out added a whole new sensory level to his play.
To start, we gathered a few, bigger items that we could hide and then search for in our bin and took a picture of them all together.
We covered everything with rice so that it was all hidden and I was given approximately 2.5 seconds to snap a picture before he dove in.
Nicholas had a blast searching for the toys but I love this bin for so many more reasons that just the entertainment it provides. It’s not only a fun way to spend an afternoon but it incorporates sensory play into your day while allowing you and your child to practice their early math skills by matching the objects to their pictures. It is just so versatile that you could change it up every day if you really wanted to! You can even dye it different colors if you want! The possibilities are endless!
What’s your favorite way to use rice with your toddler/preschooler?
