Printable Humpty Dumpty Nursery Rhyme Coloring Book
Around here, we’re huge fans of nursery rhymes.
We have several that are favorites, but Humpty Dumpty is always one that tops that list.
It’s short, simple, a little silly, and a fantastic way to introduce little ones to nursery rhymes and other simple stories.
It also happens to be the one that we almost always use to start off our preschool year.
Not only do nursery rhymes introduce children to simple, easy to memorize stories, they also pack a bit of a punch when it comes to working on early literacy skills.
They obviously cover rhyming, but you will also practice a bit of comprehension while reading these stories to your little ones.
For us, we love using nursery rhymes to help us work on positional words, or prepositions that indicate where one object is in relation to another. So, in other words, words like on, under, over, behind, between, etc.
With younger preschoolers, I like to start out practicing one of these at a time and the Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme is a great way to do that.
First, we read the story and stop on the first page to point out that Humpty Dumpty is sitting “on” the wall. After reading through our printable coloring book, we go back again and ask what he was sitting on.
Afterward, we talk a bit about the various things that we can sit or stand on and the things that we couldn’t. We generally try to name at least a couple of things that would either be too small, too wobbly, too slippery, etc. to stand on.
This really gets their little minds working and is such a fun way to kick off our year.
