Can you believe that October is almost upon us?
For the adults, this year may seem to be flying by but for the little ones, especially when they’re waiting on a holiday, the days seem to go on forever!
Well, this year, instead of listening to my little guy ask (every single day) if it’s Halloween yet, we decided to create a countdown that would let us know exactly how many days are left until the big night!
Since we were also in a bit of a crafty mood, we put together a quick craft that would hold our Halloween numbers and make it easy to count down the days.
If you’ve already got one that you can use, by all means, but if not, grab a few simple supplies and spend an afternoon getting crafty with your little ones!
To make the holder, you’ll need:
- 3 sheets of card stock
- 4 Popsicle sticks (color doesn’t matter)
- Glue
- Scissors
- Hole punch
- 4 small book rings
The first thing you’re going to want to do is glue your Popsicle sticks onto your card stock. Leave one sheet of card stock separate, for the bottom of your holder, and glue two Popsicle sticks to each of the other two sheets (two per sheet). This just adds a little extra stability to your holder and allows it to hold up your countdown numbers without bending.
Next, use your hole punch to add four holes to the top of those two card stock pages. Use the printable Halloween numbers as a guide and punch holes in the numbers in the same spots as well.
Next, take your third sheet of card stock that you set aside earlier, fold it in half lengthwise, and glue the halves together.
Once they’re glued together, fold over the two long edges about a 1/4 of an inch. These flaps will make it easy to attach the top sections.
Now, just attach one of your card stock with Popsicle stick sheets to one of the flaps you just created with the Popsicle sticks on the inside.
Repeat this step with the other sheet of card stock so that you create a triangle and make sure that the Popsicle sticks are on the inside.
To finish it off, just glue the top of your triangle together to make a point.
Finally, add your book rings and your numbers and you’re good to go!
On the left side, use the numbers 3, 2, 1, and 0 and on the right side, add one of each number from 0 through 9.
Now, as Halloween gets closer and closer, you can just flip over a number each day and your little ones can watch the countdown get smaller and smaller.
