Whether you’ve been crafting and decorating for Halloween for weeks now or are just getting started, this felt Frankenstein hand puppet craft is the perfect one to make with your kids.
If you’ve got some colored felt hanging out in your craft stash, then you already have pretty much everything you need!
To make a felt Frankenstein hand puppet, you’ll need:
- Green, black, and white craft felt
- Scissors
- Tacky craft glue or a hot glue gun
Once you’ve gathered up your supplies, you want to start by cutting out the head of your Frankenstein hand puppet.
If you’ve crafted with felt before, you know that it’s not always the easiest material to work with, so if your kids are smaller or are still learning to use their scissors, you may want to cut the pieces out for them.
From the green felt, you’ll need to cut two identical pieces so that you create the front and back for your puppet.
A simple, flat-edged oval will work or, if you prefer, you can trace the general shape of your child’s hand onto the felt, fold it over, and cut so that you wind up with two pieces that are the same size and shape.
Once they’re cut, apply a strip of glue along the edges of one piece. Leave the flat edge bare so that you have the opening for your hand once you’re done.
Fit the pieces together with one on top of the other so they line up and press firmly along the edges to adhere the two pieces together.
From your black and white felt, you can begin cutting out the pieces for Frankenstein’s face.
Cut out two large white circles and two small black circles for the eyes. Add a little bit of glue to the back of your smaller black circles and press them onto the larger white circles.
With another small dab of glue, you can now add Frankenstein’s eyes onto the puppet.
Finally, finish off the face by cutting some thin strips out of the black felt. Create a stitched look by layering them on the side of the face.
Complete the Frankenstein look by cutting a few bolts for the side of your puppet and small rippled strip of black felt for hair.
Just let the whole thing dry for a bit (drying time will depend on what type of glue you used) and your Frankenstein hand puppet is ready for a little spooky Halloween play!
