Do you have a child that LOVES pigs? I do. My daughter has been pig crazy since she was barely able to say the word. When I asked her what kind of activity she would make, it was no surprise she said I should create a pig activity. I’m really more shocked I haven’t done this sooner. This fun counting game is a great way to build number skills while also having fun feeding this adorable pig. He sure is a hungry pig and he loves his fruits and veggies!
Feed The Pig! Preschool Counting Activity
Feed The Pig is a game designed to help with counting and number recognition. There are several different cards to draw from and on each card it tells the child what the pig wants to eat. Some are easy with 1 tomato while others are more complicated asking for three different foods.
Materials needed for this pack:
- Paper
- Scissors
- Zip Lock Baggies (to keep everything sorted
How To Play:
Lay out the pig mat.
Place the stacks of food around the mat. There are ten different fruits and veggies.
Place the stack of cards either face up or face down, mixing them up each time.
The child will draw a card from the stack and the card will have pictured the food the pig wants to eat and how much of it. The child will count out the correct amount of foods from the stacks and place them on the pig mat.
Additional material activities:
A few added ideas for the induced materials. You could use those fruits and veggies for pattern creating as well. Such as Carrot, Watermelon, Carrot, Watermelon… and so on.
You could also use the pig mat as a play dough mat. They could create their own foods to feed the pig or create clothing and dress the pig up!
