We might be heading into the middle of January, but Spring will be here before you know it and that means that it’s time to start prepping some fun new math and literacy centers!
If you’re currently working on CVC words with your kindergartner, this duck-themed CVC words matching activity is not only the perfect way to welcome in the Spring season, it’s also a fantastic way to start working on spelling various CVC words!
You’ll work on vocabulary, spelling CVC words, letter recognition, and more with this Spring literacy center!
Mama & Baby Duck CVC Words
The mama ducks need your help to reunite them with their babies and you’ll practice building CVC words to make that happen!
Now, this literacy center is a large one.
The download itself provides you with enough mama and baby duck sets to work on 50 different CVC words covering all 5 vowels.
Each set of ducks includes a mama duck that has a picture representing the CVC word (as seen above) and each of the three baby ducks within a set contain a single letter. When you put the three of them together, they’ll spell the CVC word that is represented on the mama duck.
To Use This Literacy Center
Simply print, cut, and laminate the ducks.
Since there are so many, you probably won’t use all 50 sets at a single time. Just pick and choose the CVC words that you would like to work on right now and start with those.
First, have your child choose a mama duck and see if they can identify the CVC word that is represented in the picture. Once they’ve identified the word, have them look through the available baby ducks to find the letters that make up that word and have them place them line the ducks up in the correct order to spell the word.
As your child masters some of the sets, add a few more to the mix until they have worked through them all.
