Learning to count is a big deal for toddlers and preschoolers.
It’s a skill that they will use for the rest of their lives and sets the foundation for all future math concepts.
This, of course, means that it’s super important to not only fully master this concept before moving on to the next, but also to review and practice it regularly.
Over the years, we’ve found that one of our favorite ways to do this is with counting books and this shamrock counting emergent reader is the perfect way to practice this St. Patrick’s Day!
Shamrock Counting Book
At this point, we’ve got tons of different counting books filling our shelves.
From regular books that we’ll read over and over again to our own printable books covering everything from farm animals to butterflies, we’ve got it all.
But for the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day holiday, we needed something new, something made specifically for the occasion and this shamrock counting book turned out perfectly.
Assembling Your Shamrock Counting Book
Like the rest of our printable books, this one prints entirely in black and white.
There’s a cover page and a page that gives your preschooler the opportunity to practice writing their name, and putting the book together is a breeze!
Simply print each of the pages of the book, cut along the black center line, and staple the pages together along the left-hand side.
Using the Shamrock Counting Book
When your books are ready, your preschoolers will be able to color and decorate them however they’d like.
Then, once their coloring is done, they’ll have the opportunity to work on their handwriting skills and number words as well.
As they work through the pages, counting the shamrock from one to ten, the sentence found on the bottom of each page allows them to practice tracing each of the number words.
When they’re all done and their shamrock counting books is complete, they’ll have had another fun opportunity to practice this important math skill and a colorful new St. Patrick’s Day themed book to add to their collection!
