Now that we’ve finished up with our All About Me theme unit, we’ve moved on to numbers!
More specifically, counting. At this point, Nicholas knows his numbers. Well, 1-10 at least :) He’s getting pretty good at 11-20 as well but he still refuses to actually count things.
He’s tried it once or twice and actually does pretty well but then his stubborn streak kicks in and no matter how many objects are in front of him, when asked how many there are, his answer is automatically 10.
So for our numbers week, I’ve got some fun activities planned that will hopefully break through that little stubborn streak of his (that boy is so much like his daddy it’s not even funny).
The first of those was a huge hit!
What kid doesn’t like gumballs?!
Okay, so they’re obviously not REAL gumballs, but the activity does include stickers and sometimes those are just as fun!
This is such a simple activity and there is no mess to clean up when you’re done!
All you need are the counting gumballs printable, a marker, and some round colored stickers. Or, if you’re like me and swore that you had colored stickers but couldn’t seem to find them anywhere, you could just color some white ones ;)
This printable uses the numbers 1-10 so to get started, go ahead and write the numbers on your stickers so that each number has its own sticker.
Have your child peel the stickers off of the page and match them with the correct gumball number. Like I said, we worked on counting as we went along but if you’re child is a bit older, you could try counting backwards to add a little bit more of a challenge.
Not only are they working their number skills, but they’re working those little fine motor muscles at the same time as they peel and place all of the stickers.
And then, finally, if you’re feeling creative, break out the crayons and add a little something special to your gumball machine :)
