Animals are an obsession for many children.
My own children included.
In fact, if they could spend every waking moment learning something new about animals, they would.
Fortunately, animals are a pretty fascinating subject and there is plenty to learn and with these printable animal pattern puzzles, I can feed their animal obsession while also working in a more hands-on science lesson!
We started off our lesson talking about how every animal’s skin is different.
We looked at examples of tigers, elephants, turtles, and more all while discussing the differences that we were able to spot.
We talked about the fact that some animals, like tigers, have fur, while others, like snakes, have scales and that while some animals may have stripes, others are covered in spots.
And then, once this lesson had begun to soak in, we brought out these puzzles.
Animal Skin Pattern Puzzles
These simple two-piece puzzles are perfect for preschoolers and kindergarteners and have both a real-life, close up photo of the animal’s skin as well as a clip art picture of the animal for the children to match it to.
Included in this set, you’ll find puzzles for six different animals.
- tortoise
- zebra
- elephant
- snake
- tiger
- giraffe
Now, these printable puzzles are not self-correcting, so your child will have to look carefully at both the animal and the skin pattern to match them correctly.
But, prepping them is about as easy as it gets!
Just print them off, cut them out, and run the pieces of each puzzle through your laminator.
If you’re getting ready to start a jungle theme, or any animal theme really, these puzzles would make a fantastic addition to your science center and if your kids are anything like mine, they’re going to love them!
They can obsess over the various animals until their heart’s content and get a close up look at what these animal’s patterns look like in real life!
All you have to do is set them out and wait for the learning to begin!
