One of my favorite teaching resources is definitely clip cards.
Think about it!
They’re a fantastic way to practice various different concepts and skills, they provide an excellent fine motor workout, they’re quick and easy to make, and you can make them fit nearly every theme imaginable.
These alligator ten frame count and clip cards are the perfect example!
Originally made for my animal-loving kindergartner, they gave us a chance to work on strengthening those small motor muscles while also practicing ten frames!

Now, if these look familiar, it’s because you’ve probably seen them before.
They were such a big hit in our house that we turned them into a digital set of Boom Cards™ as well!
For this particular set, however, there’s no internet connection needed!
Just print them off, cut them out, and run them through your laminator.
What are Count and Clip Cards?
Count and clip cards are a fantastic way for preschoolers and kindergartners to work on their counting and fine motor skills!
Each card will typically have a number of objects printed on it as well as a few possible answers along the bottom of the card and the best part is that they can be made to fit any theme and you can use them work on a number of different concepts and skills.
How to Use the Alligator Ten Frame Count and Clip Cards
Included in this set are 11 different alligator ten frame count and clip cards, giving your child the opportunity to work on numbers 0-10 within a ten frame.
Your child’s job will be to count the dots within each ten frame and “clip” the correct answer along the bottom of the card with a clothespin or something similar.
In the past, we’ve also used paper clips and binder clips and they have both worked well.
Just starting out with ten frames?
If your child is just getting started with ten frames or is easily overwhelmed, start out with just a few cards at a time and let them work their way up to the full set.
You can also provide some manipulatives to use as they count if they need to be a little more hands-on.
