As we inch closer and closer to Halloween night, our days have been filled with fun fall themed projects and Halloween crafts. Today however, we’re taking a bit of a break from all of that to share the next installment in our preschool alphabet book!
When my 4 year old and I first start going over things that started with the letter G, for some reason, grapes was the one thing that really stuck in his mind. So, when we created our lowercase letter G craft, that’s just what we decided to go with!
It doesn’t get much simpler than this one right here! A few circles and the majority of your craft is ready to go!
To make this fun set of grapes, you’ll need:
- A sheet of white card stock
- Black, purple, green, and brown construction paper
- Glue
- Scissors
- A green pipe cleaner
As always, the first thing you’re going to want to do is cut out your letter. We went with black construction paper for the lower letter G since it would stand out against both the white of the card stock and the purple of the grapes but use whatever color you like. Once you’ve got your G cut out, glue it right in the center of your sheet of card stock.
Next, you’ll need to cut out the rest of your pieces. For these pieces, you won’t actually use much of your construction paper. When we have projects like this, we tend to take the unused portion of the paper and stick it into a cardboard box that we keep with our craft supplies so that we can use it up later. No use in wasting perfectly good construction paper :) There is always another project that we can use it on.
From the purple paper, cut out different sizes of circles for your grapes, a stem from the brown, and a leaf for your bunch of grapes from the green.
This is excellent scissor skill practice for your preschooler but if you are making these with your toddler or your child is still too young for scissors, a large circle punch would work just as well.
Now, have your child glue the purple circles onto their letter G. No real pattern, just wherever they’d like their grapes to go.
Next, add your leaf and your stem at the top of your letter G.
Finally, for the vine that your grapes have grown on, cut your pipe cleaner in half and have your child wrap it around a crayon or a pencil. This will help to strengthen those fine motor muscles while creating a nice and springy vine for you to work with.
With a little piece of tape (glue never seems to work for us), stick your vine right up at the top of your letter and you’re all done!
