Finding ways to strengthen your preschooler’s small motor muscles is a vital part of their development. The hand strength and the hand-eye coordination that they develop while working on those fine motor skills will come in handy as they learn to get themselves dressed, tie their own shoes, and even as they learn to properly hold a pencil and write.
Of course, finding ways to make that practice fun is just as important since young children retain so much more information when they’re learning through play.
Fortunately, this is one of those skills that can be worked on all year long, so you don’t ever have to worry about running out of ideas, but with Halloween just around the corner, we’ve combined the two, the spookiest holiday of the year and the fine motor practice that your preschoolers need, and put together a list of some of the coolest Halloween fine motor activities that we’ve ever seen!
Fine Motor Activities for Halloween
Every single one of these Halloween fine motor activities would fit perfectly into a Halloween theme and they’re all so much fun that your preschoolers won’t even realize they’re learning!
Spider Busy Bag
If you’re looking for a fun fine motor activity that’s quiet and can be used for early finishers, this spider themed busy bag is for you!
Not only will those little hands get a workout on those clothespins, but they’ll also get the chance to work on numbers and counting as well!
Spider Sensory Bin
Sensory bins are a fun way to work on a number of different skills and this one is no different!
Just add a pair of large plastic tweezers and a few plastic spiders and your preschoolers will be able to enjoy this spider sensory bin and work on strengthening those small motor muscles all month long!
Five Little Pumpkins Fine Motor Activity
Add a little Halloween fun to your circle time or small group instruction with this five little pumpkins fine motor activity!
This fun activity pairs perfectly with the song and is an easy way to work on fine motor skills, counting, and rhyming all at the same time!
Frankenstein Paper Plate Craft
If ever there were a perfect time to craft monsters out of paper plates, the month of October would be it!
Making this Frankenstein paper plate craft will give your preschoolers the opportunity to work on their scissor skills and decorate for Halloween with their work when they’re all done!
Glow in the Dark Spider Webs
Perfect for preschoolers that are working on their pincer grasp, these glow in the dark spider webs are also a great activity for older students as well.
Using just different colors of rubber bands, your students will get to create a Halloween spider web that looks pretty cool on its own, but as a fun bonus, it’ll look even better under a black light!
Glue Ghosts
If you’ve ever spent any time at all with preschoolers in the classroom, you know that you have to watch them like a hawk when they have glue bottles in their hands.
They can empty an entire bottle in no time at all if you aren’t careful.
But, squeezing those glue bottles is the perfect way to work on those small hand muscles and with these glue ghosts, you won’t have to worry about how much glue they’re using!
Scissor Skills Pumpkin
This time of year is filled with pumpkins of all shapes and sizes and this fun fine motor craft is such a fun way to add that to your classroom!
This scissor skills pumpkin is made out of basic materials like construction paper and is such a fun one to add to your collection of Halloween fine motor activities.
Halloween Necklaces
When it comes to working on fine motor skills, it doesn’t get much easier than threading.
With just a few plastic straws in fun Halloween colors and some string, your preschoolers will get an excellent fine motor workout as they thread and they’ll finish their crafting session with some beautiful Halloween necklaces that they can wear home.
Tissue Paper Candy Corn
Whether you’re a fan of candy corn or not, this tissue paper candy corn is such an adorable way to celebrate the holiday with your young learners!
And the fine motor fun doesn’t have to end with candy corn!
You could easily try this out with a number of different Halloween-themed pictures!
Pumpkin Lacing Activity
My all-time favorite activities for preschoolers are those that work on multiple skills at once and this pumpkin lacing activity definitely fits that bill.
This pumpkin printable, like other Halloween lacing cards, allows your preschoolers to build up their small motor muscles, but they’ll also get to work on numbers and number order as well!
Spiral Ghost
Imagine your classroom full of spiral ghosts hanging from the ceiling this holiday season!
Spirals are such an easy craft to make all year long, using nothing more than construction paper, but add a bit of a Halloween twist and you’ve got a fun way to work on a variety of fine motor skills!
Textured Play Dough
I have yet to meet a single preschooler that doesn’t absolutely love play dough.
It’s not only a fun sensory experience, but it’s also a fantastic way to build those small motor muscles.
Now, add some spooky Halloween colors and a little bit of texture and you’ve got an amazing Halloween-themed activity.
Yarn Wrapped Mummy
If you’re looking for a fun way to fill a rainy day with Halloween spirit while also working on those fine motor skills, a few yarn wrap mummies are the way to go!
They’ll amaze your students without the mess of traditional crafts and when you’re
