Summer is coming and you know what that means? It’s picnic season!
That’s right! Whether you’re planning a picnic in the park or just heading out to the backyard, there’s nothing quite like taking your lunch and eating it outside before heading out to play.
It doesn’t get much better right? Wrong! Now, you can bring a little bit of the park to your picnic!
This is quite possibly the quickest and easiest dessert you will ever whip up and the kids are going to have a blast eating it! In fact, from start to finish, this recipe will only take you about 20 minutes! The best part? You can serve it in a sand castle pail :)
What are you going to need to make some of your own? Well, I’m glad you asked!
You can actually find everything you’re going to need at your local Dollar General!

You’ll need:
- 1 box of Clover Valley Vanilla Wafers
- 1 package of Clover Valley Chocolate Sandwich Creme Cookies
- 2 boxes of instant vanilla pudding
- 1 8oz. container of Cool Whip
- A new sand castle pail and shovel
First things first, prepare your vanilla pudding according to the package directions and stick that in the fridge to set up for 5-10 minutes.
While that is setting, you’ll make your sand.
Pour the entire contents of your box of vanilla wafers into a food processor and add 3-4 chocolate sandwich cookies. Really, the number of chocolate cookies depends solely on how dark you want your sand to look.
Process your cookies until they reach a sandy looking consistency. This will only take you a minute or two.
Once your sand is ready to go, pull your pudding out of the fridge and fold in the container of Cool Whip. You should wind up with a very light, creamy pudding mixture.
Now for the fun part! Filling your pail :)
To create your sandy dessert, add your pudding and “sand” to your pail, alternating between layers.
Start with a 1 inch (or so) layer of pudding in the bottom of your pail. Tap your pail a few times to even out your layer.
Follow that up with a layer of “sand” and continue until your pail is full, alternating between pudding and “sand.”
Finally, add a few adorable sea creatures and a shovel (for serving of course) and there you go! The perfect picnic dessert!
Are you ready for summer? Don’t worry! You’ve still got time! Everything you need for the summer picnic season can be found at your local Dollar General and their Clover Valley brand can save you both time and money!
