As we continue working through the alphabet in our home preschool, it occurred to me that I never shared our alphabet book.
This has been such a fun way for little man to learn his letters and it is something we can hold on to and look at whenever we feel like it without a bunch of papers lying around and either getting lost or taking up a lot of space.
Each letter in our book (both upper and lowercase) have a craft for us to make together and a printable page to give him a little more practice with that particular letter and of course, since the alphabet starts with the letter A, that’s where we started as well.
To create our book, we used an extra 3 ring binder that we had lying around and just glued our craft right onto a piece of card stock that we could then hole punch and stick right in the binder. It just makes it so simple to keep everything together and he loves going back to look at all of the letters that he’s already made.
To make the alligator craft for the uppercase letter A, you’ll need:
- Green and white construction paper
- Card stock
- Black crayon or marker
- Glue
- Scissor
Start out by cutting a large uppercase letter A from your green construction paper. To make it easier, just fold the paper in half and draw an outline of half of a letter A and then cut. When you open the paper up, you should have yourself a letter :)
If your children are old enough, let them cut out their own letter shapes as well as circles and triangles from the white construction paper for your alligators eyes and teeth.
Glue your green letter A to your card stock and your eyes on to your A. Have your children use a marker or crayon to give the alligator some eyes.
Finally, have them glue the teeth that they cut (draw guidelines for them to cut on if that makes it easier) right onto the alligator. Since you glued your letter A onto card stock, it will be much easier for them to add the teeth as well as hole punch the card stock and add your alligator to your book.
For the letter A page, we broke it into 3 parts. At the top, we find and circle all of the uppercase letter A’s and them trace them in the handwriting section. Finally, at the bottom, we added a few pictures (and words) of other things we could think of that started with the letter A.

Put it all together and you’ve got yourself the start of a really fun project with your little ones!
