If you work with preschoolers or kindergartners in any capacity, chances are that you have a ton of different manipulatives that you use on a daily basis.
From Snap Cubes to counting bears, they have so many different uses and can be a fantastic learning tool for young children.
Pattern blocks are another of these and when you’re trying to work on shapes and early geometry, they’re perfect for making your learning activities more hands-on.
They have been, unfortunately, overlooked a bit in our house as we’ve been spending a lot of time here lately working with Snap Cubes. With Spring coming up, however, we decided to change that with these Spring pattern block pictures!
Within the download, you’ll find 10 different full-page pattern block picture mats that are absolutely perfect for Spring!
You’ll use pattern blocks of all shapes and sizes to make the various Spring-themed pictures including:
- bird
- bee
- birdhouse
- blossom
- bug
- flower
- raindrop
- tulip
- umbrella
- watering can
I purposely made them fit a full-page to ensure that little hands had plenty of room to work so all you need to do to prep them is simply print them out and run them through your laminator for durability.
When they’re all ready to go, just set them out for your little learner with a set of pattern blocks and a dry erase marker.
Have them recreate each of the Spring-themed pictures using the pattern blocks and then count how many they used before writing the answer in the space provided with their dry erase marker.
Don’t have any pattern blocks?
You can find multiple different sets online at places like Amazon, but if you’re not wanting to buy another set of manipulatives or you’d just like to use them sooner than they can be shipped, you can always make your own!
We’ve used foam pattern blocks before that we made using this template and the kids had a blast with them.
They can be made in any color that you wish and with a couple of sheets of craft foam, you can make as many as you like!
