From Halloween to Christmas, it always seems like the entire holiday season flies by in the blink of an eye.
It’s an insanely busy time of year and I never really feel like I have enough time to make all of the fun Christmas-themed activities that I want to make.
So, this year, I’m starting early and this ornament counting file folder game is one of my current favorites!
This is such a simple counting game and you can put the whole thing together in just a few minutes, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that this is one holiday-themed game that your toddler or preschooler is going to love!
Assembling the Ornament Counting Game
To make this game for your own little learners, you’ll need:
- A manila file folder
- Scissors
- Clear contact paper
- Laminator (optional, but highly recommended)
- Velcro dots (optional)
- The ornament counting printable (below)
Print and cut out both sets of Christmas trees and run the colored set through your laminator for durability.
Using some clear contact paper, attach the cover of the game to the front of the folder and then attach the numbered Christmas trees to the inside flaps.
At this point, you can stick some Velcro dots onto those numbered trees as well if you’d like.
For ours, we chose to leave the Velcro dots off for this game and instead, match the trees by simply laying them on to of one another.
Using the Ornament Counting Game
With this game, your child will work on recognizing numbers 1-10, counting, matching, one to one correspondence, and more!
Have them start by counting the number of ornaments that are on each tree.
When they know how many ornaments they have on a given tree, have them find the gray tree with the matching number and pair the two.
Continue on until you’ve matched all of the trees and when you’re done, pair this with our Christmas-themed emotion matching game and you’ll be practicing those matching skills all season long!
