Months and Days Sorting File Folder Game

Earlier this month we shared a file folder game that helped your child learn to sequence the days of the week.

Today, we’re taking that calendar concept a step further with this month and day sorting file folder game!

Not only will you get to work on distinguishing between the months of the year and the days of the week, but you can also use this simple game to practice their order as well!

Assembling the Month and Day Sorting File Folder Game

As always, you’ll need to gather a few supplies to make this game yourself.  You’ll need:

• A manila file folder
• Scissors
• Clear contact paper
• Velcro dots
• Laminator (optional)
• The printable months and days sorting set (below)

To start, attach the printable cover to the front of your folder with some clear contact paper.  To make this step a little bit easier, secure the cover in place with a piece of double-sided tape and then lay the contact paper over top.  This should hold your cover in place long enough for you to get the contact paper over it.

Next, cut out the pieces for the inside of your file folder game and use a little more contact paper to attach the day and month labels to the top of each inside flap.

Attach Velcro dots to the inside of your folder, 7 on the days of the week side and 12 on the months of the year side, and run your days and months pieces through your laminator for durability.

Finally, add the opposite side of the Velcro dots to the backs of the days and months pieces.

Using the Month and Day Sorting Game

When your game is all put together, give your child the folder and the day and month pieces and have them sort them into the section that they belong in.

While working through the various days and months, have your child see if they can tell what day or month it is that they’re currently sorting.  As you’re attaching them to the inside of your folder you could also have them work on sequencing them in the correct order.
