It’s no secret that finding a way to make a connection between something in their everyday life and what they’re currently learning will help a child learn and retain information.
Even something as simple as learning their colors can be aided by relating it to what they’re already seeing in their own environment.
This colorful sock matching file folder game allows you to do just that as even at a young age, your child has more than likely helped or watched you match socks while folding the laundry.
Now, they get the chance to do it themselves while learning the colors of the rainbow!
Using this simple file folder game, your child will work on nine different colors as well as matching making this a fantastic way to practice their early math skills.
Assembling the Sock Matching File Folder Game
Putting this game together is super simple and only requires a few simple materials. You’ll need:
- A manila file folder
- Clear contact paper
- Scissors
- Velcro Dots
- Laminator
- The colorful sock matching printable (below)
To start, print and cut out all of the pieces for the game and the cover. You should have two socks of each color making nine pairs of colored socks.
Run a single set of socks (one of each color) through your laminator for durability. These will be the ones that you use to match.
Attach the printable cover to the front of your folder using some clear contact paper and then use some more contact paper to attach the second set of colored socks to the inside of your folder.
Make sure that you leave enough room next to each sock for the second sock of the same color to be added.
Finally, add Velcro dots next to each of the socks that are attached to the inside of your folder and add the opposite side of the Velcro to the backs of each of the laminated socks.
Using the Sock Matching File Folder Game
Use the laminated socks to show your child that each pair of socks is made up of two socks of the same color and that they’ll need to match the colors to create each of the pairs.
Have them attach each missing (laminated) sock with its match by sticking them to the folder using the Velcro dots.
Continue on until you have paired up all of the missing socks.
While matching them, have your child say the name of the color that they’re holding or try counting them to mix things up a bit.
