Halloween may still be a few weeks away, but that just means that it’s the perfect time to start planning out your Halloween themed activities for your preschooler or kindergartner and this spider letter matching activity is the perfect place to start!
While most people, myself included, are not that fond of spiders, they make a fantastic theme for almost every single Halloween activity you can think of and this alphabet matching one is no different.
Not to worry though! These creepy crawlies aren’t really all that creepy at all! In fact, they’re actually pretty cute and a fantastic way to work on your child’s letter recognition skills!
Your child will work on letter recognition for both upper and lowercase letters of the alphabet and matching the letter pairs together.
This circular matching game can be used as a simple matching activity in which your child works their way through matching each of the lowercase spiders to their uppercase webs, or if you print them out on something a little bit thicker like cardstock, you can flip them over on the table or the floor and use them to play a memory matching game.
To prep the pieces, you’ll just need to print them, cut all of the circles out, and run them through your laminator for durability.
If you find that your child is struggling with the number of letter sets, try starting out with just a few at a time so as not to overwhelm them.
When they’ve successfully paired the ones that you started with, add a few more.
Continue adding new sets of three to five letters at a time until they’ve mastered the entire alphabet and then, if you’re really digging the Halloween theme, give our candy corn math and literacy centers a try! They’ll keep your little learners busy all throughout the month of October!
