Whether you’ve just started introducing your preschooler or kindergartner to both versions of the alphabet or you’re seasoned pros that are just looking for ways to review, this cookie jar letter sorting activity is a sweet way to practice differentiating between the upper and lowercase letters of the alphabet!
One of our favorite silly storybooks for the preschool age is If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff and this cookie letter sorting printable is the perfect activity to cap off that story.
Cookie Jar Alphabet Sorting
After you’ve read the story and your preschoolers know exactly what would happen if you gave a mouse a cookie, it’s time to start working with some cookies of your own!
The printable cookie jar alphabet sorting activity contains two large cookie jar printables and two sets of printable cookies.
To set up the activity, you’ll first need to print all of the pages, cut out the pieces, and run them all through your laminator so that they hold up to little hands.
Within the download, you’ll find that the first set of alphabet cookies contain all 26 uppercase letters. The second set is made up of all 26 lowercase letters.
The cookie jars are labeled. One for the uppercase letters and one for the lowercase version.
To use, explain to your child that you are going to sort the cookies into the correct cookie jar with the uppercase letters going into the uppercase letter jar and the lowercase letters going into the lowercase jar.
To add to the challenge, have your child see if they can find the matching pairs and name each of the letters before sorting them into the correct jars or set out the letters that are included in their name and have them place them in order before sorting them.
