When teaching your child at home, you may not initially think about working on math skills with your toddler or young preschooler and while you won’t be working out any mathematical equations, those early math skills like counting and sorting are important stepping stones to those more difficult concepts. This size sorting file folder game is a great way to introduce the concept of big and little objects while working on the star shape with your toddler as well!
A bonus with this game is that if you’re working on teaching your toddler shapes, they’ll be able to practice their star shape as well!
Star Size Sorting
With two different sizes, your toddler or preschooler will be able to work on determining whether their star is either big or little and then sorting it into the correct column.
To make your own, as always attach the included cover to the front of your folder using clear contact paper.
Cut out the various pieces that are included in the download (found below) and laminate the stars.
When your pieces are laminated, it’s time to get your folder ready.
There are two labels included as well, one for the big stars and one for the little.
Attach these to the top of the inside of your folder using some more contact paper.
Finally, give your child the pile of stars that you have cut out and have them sort them between the two columns.
Not only will they work on determining the size of each of the shapes, but they can also work their primary colors while sorting them as red, blue, and yellow stars are all included.
