As your preschooler learns about the world around them, it’s important that they learn about the five senses as these are the tools that they will use to do their exploring. Today’s file folder game is the perfect way to start learning about the senses of taste, touch, smell, sight, and hearing as they put their sorting skills to the test to decide which sense each picture will use.
We use our senses each and every day, so it only makes sense to make sure that your preschooler knows a bit about them.
After all, they’ll use them all to explore the world around them as they grow and learn, why not teach them to differentiate between them.
5 Senses Sorting
As always, you’ll attach the included cover for your game to the front of your folder using clear contact paper.
Once that’s ready to go, you’ll need to cut out the pieces for your game.
Included in the printable set are five sense labels (touch, taste, smell, sight, and hearing) and 20 different picture pieces, four for each sense.
Each square piece contains a picture that can be attributed to a particular sense. The included pictures are:
Hearing
- Child listening to a radio
- Bird
- Police car (siren)
- Cell phone
Smell
- Child smelling a flower
- Flower
- Perfume
- Stinky sock
Taste
- Child tasting a lemon
- Chips
- Lemon
- Doughnut
Touch
- Child petting a cat
- Wood board
- Iron
- Pinecone
Sight
- Child reading a book
- A painting
- A mirror
- Television
Attach the labels to the inside of your folder with some more contact paper and cut out and laminate all of the picture pieces.
Use Velcro dots underneath each of your sense labels to create four spots for your child to match the picture pieces.
When it’s all ready to go, give your child the picture pieces and have them sort through them to determine which picture fits under each sense.
