You wouldn’t know it by the weather that we’ve been having lately, but it is officially October.
Now, for all of you preschool teachers out there, that more than likely means that you’re planning your activities and themes around the fact that not only is the month of October National Fire Prevention Month, but the second week of this month is Fire Prevention Week.
We’ll be talking all about firefighters and the jobs that they do here in our own home preschool as well, but I also like to try to incorporate our theme into other areas as well and these fire truck themed ten frames are a fantastic way to do that!
Math is always one of the easiest subjects, for me at least, to incorporate our theme into and these fire truck ten frames were no exception. They have also very quickly become a favorite of the preschooler and the toddler.
We just made some of our favorite play dough recipe and added food coloring to make it fire truck red, grabbed a couple of our dry erase pockets, and started counting!
These mats are perfect for not only practicing counting and fine motor skills but also for working on a little one-to-one correspondence as well.
Of course, with the tracing at the bottom, we also snuck in a little number recognition and number word recognition as well.
This printable set covers numbers 1-10 and is so easy to use it’s crazy.
Just print them off and slip them into your dry erase pockets or laminate them so that you can use them with play dough. Then, just grab a couple of dry erase markers, your favorite play dough, and you’re ready to count!
Don’t have any dry erase pockets? That’s okay! You can either laminate them and use them the same way or skip the dry erase side of things and use them with mini erasers, glass gems, and more!
