While mothers everywhere should be celebrated every day, that one special day of the year is coming that is reserved solely for them and this simple Mother’s Day card for kids is one that is sure to make her mama heart melt.
Over the years, I’m sure that your children, if they’re anything like mine, have given you a ton of gifts.
From their very first words to flowers they picked from the backyard.
Whether big or small, each and every one of them makes a new memory that you’ll hold onto forever.
That first handmade Mother’s Day gift though? That memory seems just a little bit more precious and whether you’re helping your own child make this colorful Mother’s Day card or a classroom full of kids, it makes the perfect first gift.
Love You to Pieces Mother’s Day Card
To make your own, you’ll need a few simple supplies.
- Construction paper
- Contact paper
- Scissors
- Crayons
- Confetti
Now, for the confetti, you can obviously head out to your nearest Hobby Lobby or Walmart and find some that would be perfect for this card, or you could do what we did and make your own!
With a few sheets of colorful construction paper, a hole punch (these work really well with little hands), and a few minutes a day over the past couple of weeks we worked on strengthening those small motor muscles while making the perfect confetti for this craft.
To make your card, the first thing you’re going to want to do is fold it in half to make a card. From there, flip it over and draw a heart template on the back so that when you’re cutting it out, you have a guideline to follow.
Next, have the adult in the group carefully cut out the heart shape from the back of the card so that when you open it up, you see a heart cutout on the right side.
Once it’s cut out, flip your card over and attach a small sheet of contact paper over the back flap so that your heart is covered and the sticky side of the paper is facing the inside of your card.
Finally, the fun part! Have your little ones sprinkle and spread their confetti all over their heart-shaped cutout.
Depending on how big your confetti pieces are, you may need to have them press a few of the pieces into the contact paper to make sure they stick.
Now just sit back and admire that gorgeous confetti heart.
Have your kiddos write their name and let their mamas know that they love them to pieces. Lots and lots of little confetti pieces!
