Regardless of the season, one of the very first things that we do when we start learning to count to 10 is put together a few new counting books.
Over the past couple of years, our collection has grown quite a bit, but as the preschooler and I started breaking out our Spring themed activities, I realized that a book dedicated to all of the colorful butterflies that we see during this time of year wasn’t included.
Of course, we had to remedy that and this colorful butterfly counting book was born.
Now, this book serves a bit of a dual purpose.
We’ve had plenty that have worked solely on learning to count to 10 and many that work on counting and writing numbers, but for this book, we decided to throw in a little color word practice as well. You know, just to liven things up.
This printable counting book prints entirely in black and white so that your child can enjoy coloring the entire thing all by themselves. They’ll even have a spot to practice writing their name.
To assemble your book:
Print each of the pages, cut along the black center line to create your 12-page book, and staple the pages together along the left-hand side (to the left of the dotted line).
I usually find with these books that stapling them three times along the left side of the book is the easiest as this allows little hands to flip through without the pages getting ripped.
To use:
Once your book has been printed and assembled, hand it over to your preschooler or kindergartner and let them go to town!
Read the book with them and see if they can identify the correct color words if you have been working on those and color their butterflies with the corresponding color.
Finally, have them count the butterflies on each page and practice writing the correct numeral in the space provided.
