In all my years of teaching, I have yet to meet a single child that doesn’t love superheroes.
With their super strength and the ability to fly, they fascinate children of all ages.
So, in looking for a way to make practicing ten frames fun, it made sense to add a little superhero help!
Learning with Ten Frames
Ten frames may seem fairly simple, but they are, in fact, a very effective teaching tool.
They can help your students strengthen their one-to-one correspondence skills while also working on developing their number sense skills as well.
Personally, we love using them for a number of different concepts.
They’re excellent for working on one-to-one correspondence in preschool.
Pair them with counters or mini erasers and your students will be able to work on their fine motor skills while also easily being able to see that one manipulative fits into one box and therefore, counts as one.
As they start developing number sense in kindergarten and realize that numbers can be written in many different ways, we break out the ten frames once again.
But as much as we love using ten frames, I will say that on their own, they’re kind of boring.
Superhero Ten Frames
There are so many fun ways to liven up a set of ten frames, but one of our favorites right now is with a few superheroes.
Now, pair those superheroes with digital ten frames that require no printing, cutting, or laminating and they get even better!
This digital superhero ten frame activity is bright, colorful, and so easy to use with your students.
Available on all three big digital platforms – Boom Learning, Google Slides, and Seesaw – your students will be able to use this activity to work on their number recognition skills while practicing number sense with ten frames at the same time!
On both the Boom deck and the Google Slides version, they’ll identify the superhero number and then click on the matching ten frame.
Both of these platforms are self-checking and will give your students instant feedback on their answers.
On Seesaw, however, they’ll drag one of the colored check mars to the correct ten frame instead.
Across all three platforms, they’ll have the chance to build their own superhero strength when it comes to those number sense skills for numbers 0-10!
