With winter here, we’re busting out all of the snow and ice-themed activities that we can find and we’re loving every minute of it!
A few days ago, for instance, we practiced the uppercase letters of the alphabet while feeding a polar bear but today, it’s all about the lowercase letters and an adorable little penguin that is ready for a snack!
Letters of the Alphabet
Learning the letters of the alphabet is such a fun concept for kids as this is really the first concrete step in learning to read.
Now, typically, when we are introducing the letters of the alphabet, we introduce both the upper and lowercase letters at the same time so that children know what they look like.
We do, however, spend a little bit more time looking at and talking about the lowercase letters as those are the ones that you’ll see most often in reading and writing.
Feeding the Penguin
Now, obviously, when teaching a new concept, like letters, you want to expose your students to them as often as possible and the easiest way to do that is with fun activities like this digital feed the penguin activity.
Available on all three big digital platforms – Boom Learning, Google Slides, and Seesaw – this digital activity will have your students working on all 26 lowercase letters of the alphabet while they work to help a penguin fill his belly.
Just like the uppercase polar bear version, your students will click on the sound icon found at the top of each slide to hear the letter.
Then, they’ll look through the colored fish to find the correct one.
Once they’ve found the right letter fish, they’ll drag the fish to the penguin’s mouth to feed him the lowercase letter (on both Boom and Seesaw).
On the Google Slides version, they’ll simply click on the correct fish instead.
When they’re all done, they’ll not only have helped feed a very hungry penguin, but they’ll have also worked on practicing all 26 letters of the lowercase alphabet at the same time!
