When kids start learning their sight words, it becomes essential that they learn to identify their sight words in different contexts. This activity is a great way to review sight words. The kids will love cutting and pasting their words onto the correct trees.

Sight Word Font Discrimination
As children learn to segment and read their sight words, it becomes even more important to expose them to different kinds of typefaces that the words may be written in. Kids are often also learning to blend sounds so this is a great way to have them read each word as they cut and paste it. They can then readily identify sight words in many other various formats.
This activity is simple to prepare and use.
I even got my ESL kids to work on these even though they found them quite tricky, especially the word ‘blue’ and ‘blui’. It’s great practice!
To prepare
- Download the activity pack below.
- Print as many sheets as you need for the number of students in your class.
- Instruct the students to cut the words at the bottom out.
- Prepare glue sticks and scissors on each table.
- Watch the students as they complete their activity to make sure they are pasting the words correctly.
To use
- Read the words as a whole class and make sure the kids know how to read them.
- Get the to cut out the words at the bottom.
- The kids will read each word before they paste it onto the correct tree.
- They continue this until all words have been sorted.
- This fun activity can be repeated for practice!
- I like having the kids paste their trees into their notebooks and coloring it.
It is essential that you check the kids’ progress as they complete this activity as some of the words included are spelled very similar to the words they are looking for and students that are struggling with their spelling or ESL kiddos may find this difficult.
