There is something magical about dinosaurs that excites little minds. Maybe it’s the awesome colors or the vastness of some of their sizes. They absolutely love dinosaurs! Of course, the babies and the eggs they come from are no exception.
This dino egg cracking fine motor activity includes 10 brightly colored dinosaur eggs that are sure to be a hit!
Developing Fine Motor Skills
You will need to print a set of numbered dino eggs for each child as well as provide them with a hole punch. Children can begin this fine motor activity by cutting the eggs out themselves. Cutting with scissors is great for practicing hand eye coordination and fine motor development. Or, for young children, you can have them cut out and ready to use.
After the eggs are ready to go, the child can line up the numbers in order (1-10) or put them in a stack.
Count to Crack Open Dino Eggs
When you’re all done cutting out the dino eggs, it’s time to get the hole punch. The hole punch is an excellent way to build hand strength and fine motor coordination.
Counting is a skill that needs lots of repetition. They can count the number of “cracks” (holes) as they make them. They won’t even realize they are working on their number recognition and counting because they are so focused on their hand workout.
Keep Them Counting
Once their hands are tired from their workout, you can go back and talk more about each number and count the number of cracks on each egg.
As an added bonus, dump out all the holes and now you have colored confetti! Older kids may want to count all the circles or even use them as a puzzle to fit back on the eggs.
If your kid is an avid dino explorer, like mine, this activity can take another fun turn… let’s imagine for a minute that these are real dino eggs. What kind of baby dinos may be inside? There is no right answer! Just lots of fun possibilities!
