Working on CVC words can be a lot of fun as that is really where most children take their first big step into reading, but for some, it’s not an easy step to take.
Repeated practice can obviously help, but I think you’d be surprised at just how much success you’ll have just by finding ways to make it fun!
In fact, it works so well that we’re always looking for ways to incorporate some fun, seasonal learning into our days and right now with the sun out and spring in the air, it seemed like the perfect time to practice our CVC words with a literacy laundry line!
This is not only a fun way to work on letter sounds and building CVC words but it’s also a fantastic workout for your child’s small motor muscles.
Those strengthened fine motor skills will really come in handy when they start working on writing those CVC words!
To use this printable activity, you’ll need:
- The literacy laundry line printable
- Clothespins
- String
- Tape
Just tape the string to a wall or a door and clip a CVC word t-shirt onto the line.
Then, have your child sound out the word and sort through the socks to find the letters to build the word.
Have them clip the socks onto the line in the correct order to build the CVC word.
You could also try building the word yourself and have your child read the word before finding the matching t-shirt.
This set includes pieces to work on 20 different CVC words across all 5 vowels.
