With the year flying by at what seems like warp speed, you may still be feeling the after effects of the large amounts of Halloween candy that your kids brought home just a few weeks ago, Thanksgiving snacks for kids, may not even be on your radar yet, but with turkey day coming up next week, if you can believe that, we’ve got a super sweet treat to share with you that the whole family is going to love!
A turkey themed snack that is so quick and easy, the kids can help you make them!
If you’re a fan of sweet and salty combos, you’re going to love this adorable little snack. So grab the kids and get them into the kitchen with you for an afternoon filled with these cute little turkeys!
As far as ingredients go, the list is pretty short and sweet :) You’ll need:
- Hershey’s Kisses
- Tiny twist pretzels
- Wilton Candy Leaves/Acorns
- Candy eyes
While the little ones can help you with assembling the turkeys themselves, an adult should be present to complete both the oven and the cutting portions of the recipe or to at least supervise if the kids are old enough.
To get started, preheat your oven to 170°.
Grab a cookie sheet and line it with parchment paper so your turkeys won’t stick and start laying out your pretzels.
Your pretzels should be in a flat, single layer across your cookie sheet so that you have enough room to easily decorate each one.
Start unwrapping your Hershey’s Kisses and place a whole Kiss upside down in the bottom hole of the pretzel. For the top holes, cut or break apart more chocolates to make pieces small enough to fit into those openings.
Place your chocolate covered pretzels into your preheated oven for 2 minutes, or just until the chocolate is softened.
Immediately upon removing the tray from the oven, place 3 of your candy leaves on the top portion of your pretzel to act as your turkey’s feathers.
Finally, working quickly before the chocolate has a chance to set, place your eyes and other parts of your turkey’s face onto the bottom section of chocolate.
Now, you can either leave these fun little snacks out on the counter for a bit to allow the chocolate to set up or, if you’re a bit impatient like we are, just pop them into the fridge for 3-5 minutes to harden.
Store these Thanksgiving snacks for kids in an airtight container to keep them fresh and of course, enjoy!
