It may have taken us a few extra weeks down here in the south, but fall is finally starting to take hold and we’ve begun to see the signs of the changing seasons.
From the changing colors on the trees to the acorns falling all over our driveway, you can see the signs of fall all around.
And speaking of acorns, they’re just so perfect for fall that we decided to try to incorporate them into our latest math lesson, introducing addition to 10!
I mean, who wouldn’t want to learn a little math if it involved some acorns and a couple of adorable squirrels?!
Within this printable set, you’ll find a set of numbers on acorns along with a plus sign and an equal sign. Included on the other page are a set of answer squirrels.
If your child has been working on a few addition equations for a while now, they may be able to work through this activity independently for extra practice. If you’re just introducing the concept of addition however, you’ll want to help walk them through it.
If need be, grab a few real acorns from the backyard to use as a fun fall manipulative to give your child a more hands-on way to work through these problems.
Once they’ve gotten the hang of it, let your child create a few of their own equations for a little extra practice.
Before long, they’ll have adding to sums of 10 down and will be ready to move on to more challenging concepts.
